Just a few days to go until our first Cardboard Carnival! Our students are engaged creating a bulletin board advertising the food drive, booths for information, maps for game locations, surveys, and of course, fabulous games!
Our school board’s goal is to help our students “improve their ability to communicate their thinking”. Encourage our students to communicate their thinking by listening to them to explain how to play and by asking them questions such as…
- Why did you build a cardboard game? Who did you think would enjoy your game? (purpose and audience)
- Where did you get your idea? (making connections)
- What challenges did you meet when designing and building your game? (reflection on learning)
- If I were going to try and build your game, what could I do to try to make it better? (goal setting)
- What are my chances of winning at your game? (probability)
- What makes you such a great game builder? (metacognition)
The Cardboard Carnival runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and we are really hoping for good weather.
If you can please bring a food item for the food drive. There will be some craft and food items for sale with all proceeds going to help the local food bank.
We hope to see you there!
P.S. Our custodians have been very patient – be forewarned that all games will need to go home or be recycled at the end of the day on Friday.
