Thanks to the efforts of our School Council, Wellesley Public School has won The Play Exchange’s Active at School Challenge. Canadians were encouraged to help promote active and healthy living in schools across the country and Wellesley Public School is the challenge winner for the province of Ontario. A panel of Canadian judges from Active for Life, Canadian Public Health Association, and the Canadian Pediatric Society selected one winner from each province and territory. Our school will be awarded $3000 to put our healthy living project into play.
School staff and School Council will partner with DrumFIT® to bring a DrumKIT to our school to increase physical activity levels and improve overall health. DrumFIT® is a fitness-based drumming program that combines the mental health benefits of drumming with the overall health benefits of physical fitness. It gets the entire body and mind working together in unison, allowing students to refocus, become fully engaged and increase their performance in all subject areas. The kit contains all the necessary equipment for a class of 30 students to participate including a training DVD/manual as well as lesson plans and support programs.
