We know that recent news of confirmed cases of measles in Waterloo Region District School Board school communities may be causing worry, especially when they impact students and staff. While you may not be impacted directly, we understand that this news may raise questions or concerns.
Working in Partnership with Region of Waterloo Public Health
We continue to work closely with Region of Waterloo Public Health in an effort to provide transparent updates in a timely manner. This rapidly evolving public health concern sometimes makes it challenging to share updates, but we continue to follow the direction of Public Health in our communications and are committed to providing updates as soon as possible.
The WRDSB’s top priority remains the health and well-being of all those in our schools and we are committed to ensuring families, caregivers and staff have the information they need to make informed decisions about the health of their children.
What Happens When a Measles Exposure Occurs?
In the event of a confirmed school measles case, Public Health contacts school and Education Centre staff, who work together to determine those impacted. Public Health provides messages that school staff share with parents and families providing important health-related information. Parents and families may be directly contacted by Public Health if they need to confirm a child’s vaccination status.
We encourage families and caregivers to:
- Review their child’s vaccination status
- Contact their healthcare provider if you have questions
- Update their child’s vaccination status with Public Health
